Here is a news article that relates to a study relating a certain genetic deficiency to bad driving. Perhaps genetic testing may be part of future evaluation for driving licenses. What say you?

I tend to disagree. For example, I suspect you had a certain crazy streak years ago. I suggest most of us did, and most of us have mellowed out somewhat with age. Then there the cabbies and real estate agents. They seem to compete for the most ridiculous stunt, regardless of age. Caddys and Lincolns seem to signal less than Chevys and Fords.
I think it has more to do with how you perceive driving. If you don't take it seriously, you don't do it well. Professional drivers take what they do seriously, the real estate agent does not. |

| For the researcher to generalize his results (obtained with a "video game like simulator") to the real world tells me that the researcher is desperately seeking grant money from people as gullible and ignorant as he apparently is. Perhaps he is peer reviewed by Parade Magazine. |

| OK here's a scary thought, in light of they way our country has been heading in recent years. Suppose at some point in the future someone with this genetic defect is at fault in a serious accident. They can claim as an affirmative defense they have the bad driving gene. Hey not my fault I got the gene right. |

I've marvelled at some of the genetic research and the potential it holds for finding a cure for some of our more serious diseases and infirmities. However, as in most discoveries, there are those who will find alternate uses for the technology.
Having a genetic roadmap of an individual appears to me to provide a breakdown of how we are chemically or physically constructed. Areas of behaviour, in my opinion, are more the result of training and upbringing. I will concede that one may be born with the predispostion to go in a certain direction but with proper training and guidance, this obstacle can be overcome. My comment about genetic testing for future evaluation for driving licenses was made with sarcasm.
That being said, the scary part is that more advanced research that would back this theory up could possibly see this become a reality at some point in the future.
In a world that has Governments that appear to be taking away our basic freedoms and decision making process, what better way to effect further control with scientific data to back them up in the form of Genetics.
The Bad Driver gene, perhaps even a bad parenting gene, a criminal disposition gene, the list could go on and on.
But then I could just be getting more paranoid as I get older or am spending too much time reading sci-fi. |

Rod, I think you and I both must be afflicted with the paranoid gene. |

| Eugenics, politics, and social "science" theories combined during the 2Oth century to kill more people and spread more misery than any plague. The potentially catastrophic harm from combining social theory and genetic "science" theory is no less today than during the worst periods of the last century. Junk science is not harmless. |
